Join the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers (NIStructE) for Python for Structural Engineers, a one-day online intensive designed for young engineers, holding Thursday, 8 October 2026.

This is the official pre-conference training track for the NIStructE 2026 Conference & 39th AGM in Ibadan, held the week before the conference as a warm-up for sessions on digital transformation, AI-assisted analysis, and computational design — supporting this year's theme, "Re-engineering Structural Practice for a Resilient, Digital and Sustainable Infrastructure in Nigeria."

Please note: this training is separately registered and separately priced. Conference or AGM attendance is not required, and conference registration does not include this course.

Delivered fully online via Zoom and Google Colab from 08:30 to 17:30 (WAT), the session carries 8 NIStructE-certified CPD hours and requires no prior programming experience. Participants work in hands-on breakout rooms of 25, each with a dedicated facilitator, covering:

  • Python foundations — variables, functions, and control flow, taught through load combinations and beam reactions
  • NumPy for engineering math — stiffness matrices, linear systems, and FEM intuition on a 2-element truss
  • pandas for design data — reading section tables, load and reinforcement schedules from Excel/CSV
  • Plotting and auto-reports — shear/moment diagrams, interaction curves, and PDF report generation
  • Verification scripts — independently checking Staad and ETABS output as a design-office habit
  • Python + AI, responsibly — applying NIStructE's Prompt Engineering Standards in practice

Who should attend:

Graduate and Associate Members of NIStructE in active design practice;

Final-year students and Part III examination candidates;

Young academics teaching structural and computational courses;

Engineers assigned to independent checking and verification duties;

Members of the BASICO Mentorship Programme and allied young-engineer cohorts; and

Any structural engineer curious about moving beyond black-box software.

Registered participants receive setup videos and lecture notes 48 hours before the event, so they arrive ready to code. Bring a laptop — this is a hands-on session.

Registration closes Friday, 2 October 2026.

Firms registering five or more participants receive a 15% group discount.

Session recordings remain available to registered participants for 90 days.
